Polygon, Start Here

Short answer: Polygon (Polygon PoS) is a low-fee blockchain that works like Ethereum: the same 0x addresses, the same wallets and the same kinds of tokens. Fees are paid in POL, the coin that replaced MATIC in 2024.
Fees
- Every transaction costs a small amount of POL, even when you send a token.
- Keep a little POL in your wallet, or you can't move your tokens.
- If you still have MATIC on Polygon, it became POL automatically. MATIC held on Ethereum can be upgraded through Polygon's official site.
Moving coins
- When you withdraw from an exchange, choose the Polygon network.
- The same 0x address works on Ethereum, but coins on one network don't appear on the other.
- Moving tokens between Ethereum and Polygon needs a bridge: see how crypto bridges work.
Watch out
- Two kinds of USDC: native USDC and an older bridged "USDC.e" both exist on Polygon. Apps and exchanges may accept only one.
- Approvals: revoke ones you no longer use: how to check and revoke token approvals.
- Fake tokens and airdrops are common; check contracts on the project's site.
