TON, Start Here

Updated 2026-10-29

Short answer: TON is a blockchain closely tied to Telegram, with a wallet built into the Telegram app. Its coin is listed by CoinGecko and others as Gram (GRAM), formerly Toncoin. Tokens on TON are called jettons (USDT is one of the biggest). Addresses usually start with EQ or UQ.

Addresses and memos

  • EQ… and UQ… are two ways of writing the same address. Wallets use UQ for personal wallets; either works for receiving.
  • Exchanges often need a memo (also called a comment or tag) with your deposit. Without it, your coins may not reach your account.

Wallets

Tonkeeper and the Wallet inside Telegram are common choices. A self-custody TON wallet has a 24-word recovery phrase: write it down and keep it offline. Telegram's built-in custodial wallet is held for you, like an exchange.

Watch out

TON's link to Telegram makes it a favourite for scams:

  • Mini-apps and bots that ask you to "connect" and then approve a transaction that empties the wallet.
  • Fake support in Telegram groups and DMs. Real support never messages you first.
  • Jettons with lure names sent to your wallet. Ignore them; don't visit the link.
