Flare Delegation: What You Can Earn, and the Risks
Updated 2026-10-30
Short answer: delegating wrapped FLR (WFLR) to one or two data providers earns FTSO rewards, a few percent a year that changes with every reward epoch. Your FLR never leaves your wallet and there's no lock-up. The main ways to earn less are a poor provider, a provider above the vote-power cap, and forgetting to claim before rewards expire.
New to it? Start with how to wrap and delegate FLR.
Where the rewards come from
Flare pays data providers to supply prices to its built-in oracle, the FTSO. When you delegate, your WFLR adds to a provider's vote power, and the provider shares its rewards with its delegators after taking a fee. The rewards are new FLR created by the network for this work.
These are separate from FlareDrops, the 36 monthly distributions to FLR holders, which ended with the last one on January 30, 2026 (unclaimed FlareDrops could be claimed for 67 days, then were burned). Delegation rewards continue.
What decides your rate
- The provider's performance. Providers that submit accurate prices earn more, and so do their delegators.
- The provider's fee. A 20% fee keeps a fifth of the rewards. Fees can change, with a delay, so check them from time to time.
- The vote-power cap. A provider holding more than 2.5% of all vote power has its rewards spread thinner, so its delegators earn less.
- How much of your WFLR is delegated. Flare lets you split between at most two providers. Anything not delegated earns nothing.
Our Delegation tab in My Rewards shows the rate each provider's delegators actually earned over recent reward epochs, after fees. Past rates aren't a promise, but they're the best guide there is.
Choosing providers
- Prefer providers that are under the cap and in the public provider list.
- Look for steady recent rates, not the single highest number. Differences between good providers are usually small.
- Check the fee.
- Splitting between two providers spreads the risk of one having a bad stretch.
Our Delegation tab can suggest two providers using these rules, and you can always choose by hand.
Claiming
Rewards become claimable at the end of each reward epoch, about every 3.5 days, and expire after about 90 days if you don't claim them. See why Flare rewards expire and how to claim them. Our Rewards page shows what's waiting and when it expires.
The risks
- Lower rewards than expected if a provider underperforms, raises its fee or goes over the cap.
- Expired rewards if you don't claim within about 90 days.
- Fake sites and fake support. Delegation never needs your seed phrase, and real delegation only calls Flare's official WFLR contract. Read what you sign: see how to read a transaction before you sign.
- The price of FLR itself moves, so rewards in FLR can be worth more or less in dollars.
Do this
- Wrap your FLR and delegate to one or two providers under the cap, with a fair fee and steady recent rates.
- Check your rewards every week or two, and claim before they expire.
- Look at your providers' rates and fees now and then, and switch if one slips.
