How to Buy FLR, and Where to Keep It

Short answer: buy FLR on a large exchange that lists it (Kraken, Coinbase and several others do), then withdraw it on the Flare network to a wallet you control, such as MetaMask or Bifrost. Send a small test first. Once it's in your own wallet, you can wrap and delegate it to earn rewards.

1. Buy it on an exchange

FLR trades on dozens of exchanges. For a first purchase, pick one large, regulated exchange you can deposit dollars into. Our exchange or your own wallet guide covers how to keep the account itself secure.

  • Search for FLR (or "Flare"), not a similar name. Check the token page shows the Flare network.
  • Start small. Your first purchase is practice for fees, order types and withdrawal times.

2. Set up a wallet on the Flare network

FLR lives on its own blockchain, Flare. Wallets that work with it include:

  • MetaMask: add the Flare network (chain ID 14). Our site adds it for you when you connect.
  • Bifrost Wallet: a phone wallet with Flare and Songbird built in.
  • A hardware wallet: most that work through MetaMask can hold FLR on the Flare network. Check your device maker's list of supported coins first.

3. Withdraw on the right network

On the exchange: Withdraw → FLR → Flare network, then paste your wallet address.

  • The network must say Flare. Some tokens called "Flare" live on other chains and are not FLR.
  • Send a small test first, check it arrives, then send the rest.
  • Keep a little FLR unspent: every transaction on Flare pays a small fee in FLR.

4. Put it to work (optional)

Watch out

  • Fake Flare tokens. Tokens with "Flare" in the name on other networks, or airdropped into your wallet, are not FLR. Never follow links in a token's name.
  • Fake support. Nobody legitimate will ask for your seed phrase, in a chat or anywhere else.
  • Exchanges credit only native FLR. Sending WFLR (wrapped FLR) to an exchange deposit address can lose it. Our Send tool unwraps first when you send to an exchange.

Do this

  1. Buy a small amount of FLR on one large exchange.
  2. Set up MetaMask or Bifrost on the Flare network, and back up the seed phrase on paper.
  3. Withdraw on the Flare network, with a small test first.
  4. Wrap and delegate it, then check your rewards on our Rewards page.
